If you’re anything like me you’re on a constant search for your next adventure. A couple of months ago I stumbled upon a program called Bamboo. Bamboo is a volunteer abroad program, that allows you to volunteer doing a variety of different services around the world. Volunteering has always been something I’ve wanted to do but have never found a program that is both affordable and fits in with my schedule. I’ve also been wanting to go to Thailand for a while, and it just so happened that this program had an amazing trip you could sign up for.
Bamboo has a program in Thailand they do called the Elephant Village Tour, which is the one I signed up to do. The tour is 2 weeks long and is located in Surin, a town 450kms from Bangkok. During the duration of the tour we will be working with two communities, these two communities have kept and cared for elephants for generations. While at the elephant refugee volunteers will have daily interactions with the elephants and help out with their day to day care. After spending a couple of days at the elephant refugee we will go to two surrounding islands for the remainder of the trip. Our group will have a tour guide with us the whole time.
This organization is really useful for people who want to travel and volunteer at the same time. What makes this organization different from most volunteer abroad programs is that you have off time where you can go and visit the country your in with a tour guide.
